MiraLAX is used for short-term treatment of constipation and long-term treatment of chronic constipation. It’s also used for bowel prep before colonoscopy. Dulcolax is used for short-term treatment of constipation. It should not be used long-term.

Will Dulcolax clean you out?
Bisacodyl is used to treat constipation. It may also be used to clean out the intestines before a bowel examination/surgery. Bisacodyl is known as a stimulant laxative. It works by increasing the movement of the intestines, helping the stool to come out.
How long does Dulcolax last?
The elimination half life of Dulcolax is 16 hours. This means that the bowel stimulant medication is metabolized in the body and roughly half is gone after 16 hours with half the remaining medicine gone after another 16 hours. As the medication level drops the stimulant effect will diminish.
What is the side effect of Dulcolax?
Side effects include: Some degree of abdominal discomfort, nausea, cramps, griping, and/or faintness with therapeutic doses. Diarrhea, GI irritation, and fluid and electrolyte depletion. Gastric irritation and the possibility of vomiting if enteric coating of tablets is disrupted.
Does Dulcolax clean out colon?
A Miralax and Dulcolax bowel prep is done to clear the bowel of all solid matter. Its purpose is to prepare the bowel for surgery or a procedure.
Can you take Dulcolax daily?
Adults and children over 12 can take 1 to 3 tablets in a single daily dose for up to 7 days. If this is the first time taking a laxative for constipation, we recommend taking 1 to 2 tablets in a single daily dose. Take tablets 30 to 60 minutes before your normal bedtime to produce a bowel movement the next morning.
Is 2 Dulcolax too much?
Do NOT take more than ONE unless you are day before bowel prepping. This medication is safe to take daily, ONE per day, as that is what we give patients in hospital (I’m also a nurse). These patients don’t have side effects. But it’s important to only take ONE.
How long does Dulcolax and MiraLAX take to work?
This prep often works within 30 minutes, but it may take as long as 4-6 hours. Someone must accompany you and take you home after the procedure. Do not drive for 8 hours after your procedure.
Which laxative works fastest?
Stimulant laxatives are the fastest-acting, such as include aloe, cascara (Nature’s Remedy), senna compounds (Ex-Lax, Senokot), bisacodyl (Dulcolax, Correctol), and castor oil.
Can I take MiraLAX 2 times a day?
Polyethylene glycol 3350 normally causes loose or even watery stools. Do not use MiraLAX more than once per day.
Which is better Dulcolax or Colace?
Is Colace or Dulcolax better? Dulcolax produces a bowel movement more quickly than Colace, with the suppository form working within an hour or so of administration. Colace is typically gentler and causes less discomfort, but may take up to three days to provide relief.
Can Dulcolax give you diarrhea?
