Key Replacements
Take your existing key and lock to a hardware store (Ace, True Value, Do it Best, etc.), locksmith or other outlet that sells Master Lock products. Ask them to order the product with the same key number that is on your key. Please call ahead, as not every retailer will provide this service.
Can you get a copy of a Master Lock key?
Master Lock does not provide keys directly to consumers; however, you may take one of your keys to a local hardware store, home center or locksmith where they can cut duplicate keys. Please note that not every store will have the appropriate key blanks available.
Are Master Lock keys universal?
A: No. Without the key number, there is no way for Master Lock to know which key will open your lock. There is not a master key that will open all Master Lock products.
Can you make a key for a lock without the original?
If it’s a lost key a locksmith can make you a key without the original, as locksmiths can make keys to lock by hand. By using a blank and a file and the skills, they’ve developed over the years a locksmith can create a key from scratch without the need for an original key.
How do I find my Master Lock key number?
The key number is stamped on the original keys provided with your lock. If you do not know the key number, it is possible to obtain additional keys from a locksmith who can impression your lock. If you do know the key number, go to a locksmith or local hardware store to order keys.
Can a locksmith open a Master Lock?
The best way to unlock a master lock is to call a professional emergency locksmith service to do the job for you. It might be a bit expensive compared to some of the other methods, but you will save a lot of time in the process. A professional locksmith will be able to make you a spare key for the lock.
Can Home Depot make master keys?
Home Depot carries and makes keys for a wide variety of House locks, including exterior door locks and padlocks. The average Home Depot house keys cost between $2.00 and $5.00.
Are all Master Lock keys different?
In a Master Keyed system, a master key opens all the locks in the system although each lock also has its own unique key. MK in the product number designates that the products will be Master Keyed. If the customer is adding on to an existing MK system, please specify the master key code.

What’s a 999 key?
Bump keys are specially cut keys that can bypass the security mechanisms built into traditional pin and tumbler locks. Bump keys are also referred to as “999 keys” because all of their ridges are cut to the maximum depth (999) in a key-making machine.
Can you get a key cut from a lock?
A lock impression allows a locksmith to make a key without decoding the lock. For a qualified locksmith this can be an efficient way to create a new key. A blank key is inserted into the lock and turned. The pins will press against the key leaving marks where cuts need to be made.
