Don’t fiddle with your piercings.
Don’t touch a new piercing or twist the jewelry unless you’re cleaning it. Keep clothing away from the piercing, too. Excessive rubbing or friction can irritate your skin and delay healing.
Does a piercing bump go away?
Skin changes can occur at the site of piercings. These changes are not always a cause for concern. For example, piercing bumps are harmless and may go away over time.
Always wash hands thoroughly before contact with piercing. Do not use rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. (Both slow the healing of pierced area by drying and killing new healthy cells.) (Ointments attempt to heal the skin & may slow oxygen transport to the tissue).
Is it good to move your new piercing?
–Never spin the jewelry, move it back and forth, or move it while you’re cleaning it. The jewelry may feel tight or like it’s not moving around and that is OK. It will move around on it’s own.
Your hair can irritate the piercing by: spreading excess dirt and oil. getting tangled around the barbell. exposing the piercing to hair products.
Do piercings have meanings?
The reasons for piercing or not piercing are varied. Some people pierce for religious or spiritual reasons, while others pierce for self-expression, for aesthetic value, for sexual pleasure, to conform to their culture or to rebel against it.
Should I remove my piercing if I have a keloid?
These can further irritate the skin and slow the healing process. Don’t remove the piercing. This can cause the hole to close up and trap the infection.
Can I pop my nose piercing bump? NO. With keloids and granulomas there’s nothing to pop ‘out’ of your bump. And with pustules, just because you think you’re a dab hand at popping pimples on your face, does not mean you should be popping pustules on your piercings.
Do keloids bleed?
Keloid scars can bleed and become infected. They can affect any area of skin, but the most common areas include the shoulders, upper back and chest, neck, ears and face. If someone develops a keloid scar on one part of their body, their skin may still heal normally in other body areas.

When is a piercing most likely to get infected?
“Infections are most likely to occur during the first week following the piercing, but can arise later on,” Dr. Kaplan says. But infection symptoms won’t pop up the moment your piercing is exposed to bacteria.
We recommend using this solution at least three times daily during the initial healing period (6 weeks for an earlobe piercing and 12 weeks for a cartilage piercing). After the healing period has ended, we recommend that you continue using your ear care solution as needed to keep your new piercing and earrings clean.
Why is there yellow crust on my piercing?
During the healing period, you can expect a bit of a white/yellow crust to form around/behind your jewelry. This crust is really just skin cells that have helped in healing your piercing and have now formed a bit of a scab around it. This doesn’t mean it’s infected, it’s just in the process of healing!

Should I pop my cartilage piercing bump?
Remember: This is not a pimple, so please don’t pop it like one. Since it’s not actually acne, there’s nothing to squeeze out of the bump. In fact, doing so could potentially cause an infection, which is much worse than some overgrown scar tissue.
